ABOUT US

Sweetgrass Development is a private, non-profit corporation created in 2004 to support economic development in the counties of Cascade, Glacier, Pondera, Teton and Toole, as well as the Blackfeet Nation and Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana. We are a diverse area that includes a large metropolitan area, many small towns, rural farming areas, several Hutterite Colonies, Glacier National Park, and the Blackfeet Reservation.

Sweetgrass Development staff works to advance the regional economy through business technical assistance, Brownfields assessments, grant writing, community networking, and much more. As a federally certified Economic Development District (EDD), we bring unique benefits to our five counties, including:

  • Participation in federal and state funding programs;

  • Reduced dollar match for grant programs;

  • Inclusion in the area-wide Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) document; and

  • Networking with other communities in the region.

ABOUT OUR REGION

Located east of the Rockies and linked by I-15, the Sweetgrass Region is home to over 112,000 residents and a wide array of thriving industries, unique opportunities, and beautiful scenery.

Head north to Glacier County and enjoy the thriving local business community on your way to the world-famous Glacier National Park.  In Cascade County, enjoy the trails and waterfalls along the upper Missouri River where Great Falls acquired its namesake. Explore Pondera County, the agricultural hub of the Golden Triangle. Visit Teton County, known for its dinosaurs, skiing, and more. Toole County borders Canada and Shelby offers hiking trails and a historic downtown area with an Amtrak station.

WHAT'S NEW IN NORTH-CENTRAL MONTANA?

We publish free newsletters every Monday morning to keep our friends and partners informed about opportunities for the businesses and entities that call our counties home. This is our way to summarize the most important things to know for the week ahead, whether it's a grant deadline for infrastructure funding, a workforce conference, or something else. Twice a month, we'll send a Thursday edition to spotlight local businesses and community events.

We also keep a blog separate from the newsletter for occasional updates about specific topics or events with which we are involved.
